What is Heroes?
Heroes is a new television series on NBC, created by Tim Kring (also creator of Crossing Jordan). Set to premiere Monday, September 25th, 2006 at 9:00PM, it is currently one of the most buzzed about new shows this Fall season.
What is Heroes about?
The show is about regular people from all around the world discovering that they have special abilities. Not knowing where their powers came from, each of them deal with life changing events.
Who are the Heroes?
This is what we currently know of the main characters:
Niki Sanders, a 33-year-old Las Vegas showgirl whose abilities involve mirrors and her reflection. She has a son, Micah Sanders, who is very smart.
Peter Petrelli, a 30-year-old male nurse who believes he can fly. He has an unsupportive older brother, Nathan Petrelli, who is running for Congress.
(It turns out Nathan is the flyer! Peters ability is still unknown.)
Isaac Mendez, a 28-year-old drug addict who can paint images of the future while he is under the influence.
Hiro Nakamura, a 24-year-old Japanese geek who can bend time and space. Giving him the ability to freeze time, and teleport.
Claire Bennet, a 17-year-old cheerleader who cannot be hurt. She doesn't feel pain and her injuries heal almost instantly.
Mohinder Suresh, a teacher who is now trying to finish his deceased fathers work, researching and finding people with special abilities.
Other main characters include Simone Deveraux, Matt Parkman, and D.L. Hawkins.
What is their purpose?
At this time it is unknown why these people have special powers. Perhaps to save the world? Tune in every Monday to find out.

"Hey Paula" -- You Stole My Show!
TMZ has obtained a lawsuit filed against Paula Abdul by a production company claiming the "Idol" judge tried to screw them out of a show based on Paula's life.
According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pilgrim Films and Television (PFTV) met with Abdul and David Russo (her producing partner) in 2004 and discussed a talk show featuring Abdul. According to the suit, after some false starts, the concept evolved into a reality show titled "Hey Paula," based on Abdul's wacky life.
The lawsuit alleges that the project fell apart after Abdul demanded final editorial control over the final product. The suit claims PFTV was trying to get the show back on track by selling it to Oxygen. But PFTV claims Abdul allegedly came clean and told the peeps at PFTV that "she had secretly taken PFTV's 'Hey Paula' project ... to Bravo." The suit claims she never mentioned that Russo was allegedly in on it. On January 12, Bravo announced "Hey Paula" will debut sometime this year on the cable network.
The suit asks for compensatory and punitive damages, in addition to an injunction prohibiting anyone from airing "Hey Paula."
David Russo's lawyer, Bill Abrams, told TMZ, "The allegations are baseless."
Paula told TMZ, "While I'm not going to respond to this baseless lawsuit, I will say that "Hey Paula" is based upon my life and my ideas. Last I heard, I still own my own life."

Gay porn producers don't normally view the federal government as allies. In the past year, nearly a dozen adult companies have been subjected to raids by the FBI looking for record-keeping violations. So on Saturday morning when I got an text message from Owen Hawk with a pic featuring US Marshalls outside a run-down XXX store, I suspected the worst. Who would have guessed that they were there as a team?
Hawk and partner Matthias von Fistenberg from Dark Alley Media, along with the boys at Pitbull Productions, raided a series of adult video stores in Times Square (no doubt sandwiched between ESPN Zone and the Disney Store). The stores were selling counterfeit DVDs from studios including a Hot House, Falcon, Raging Stallion and Jet Set.
With all the hysteria about file-sharing -- as well as the Orwellian sirens-and-flashing-lights "do not share this DVD" segments at the beginning of certain movies -- it's easy to forget that one of the biggest incursions into gay porn producers sales somes from a guy in a back room with a DVD duplicator. It's a good thing Dark Alley got them this month -- you have to wonder if the US Marshalls are going to be as sympathetic when Gaytanamo comes out.

This action-horror film is set in ancient Romania and stars Kristianna Loken (TERMINATOR 3) as Rayne, a half-human/half-vampire sworn to kill her evil tyrant vampire father (Ben Kingsley). Michael Madsen, Michelle Rodriguez, and Matthew Davis play a trio of vampire hunters who ally themselves with Rayne. Based on a video game, this film earns its R-rating by offering a lot more blood, gore, and nudity--and less CGI effects--than most of its modern vamp contemporaries. With all its swords, chained breasts, gushing arteries, and severed heads, BLOODRAYNE seems more like a welcome throwback to those great early 1980s drive-in sword and sorcery flicks. In between the slashing and gouging there are torch-lit castles, nefarious booby traps, blurry flashbacks, and aerial camera shots that swoop down through the gorgeous Carpathian landscapes. Loken, with her fangs and low-rider leather chaps, looks pretty gorgeous herself, and there's a surprising number of name actors in bit parts, including Meat Loaf (as a vamp surrounded by nubile naked concubines), Geraldine Chaplin (as a fortune teller), and--clearly having the most fun--Billy Zane as a bored vampire king plotting to take over the kingdom. It's directed by Uwe Boll, the man who gave us the video game adaptations of HOUSE OF THE DEAD and ALONE IN THE DARK. Cult cinema fans should take this one to--and through--the heart, especially for the chance to see Madsen's period costume and long hair.
